Students who successfully complete the module should have a solid base from which to continue onto Level 5 Financial Accounting and Level 6 Financial Reporting.

The module builds essential analytical, numerical, problem solving and decision-making skills valued by employers in finance, accounting, and business roles. Initiated from 2015 and officially founded in 2018, the LSMIF is set up with a structure similar to any other professionally run fund management company with students running every aspect of the fund, from CEO to analyst. It is one of only few of this kind in the United Kingdom.

The fund uses money raised from donors to invest in shares of companies listed on London Stock Exchange. It is organized, run and managed the same way as an investment company in the real world. The fund has got sponsorship and advisory support from UK leading wealth management companies such as Brewin Dolphin and Mattioli Woods with senior officers from them joining the Board of Advisors.

This fund gives students the opportunity to work as analysts, investment managers, CFO, CIO, CEO etc. Students also have the chances to meet, discuss and learn from experts in the field in Quarterly Investment Committee Meetings series. Students are given additional training relating to their works.

Module Overview

This module will further develop your skills and understanding of the preparation of financial statements by companies under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). You will study some key accounting standards in detail and gain a solid foundation in the techniques required to prepare moderately complex financial statements

You will be exposed to the calculation, analysis and interpretation of accounting ratios, a vital skill needed for making investment decisions. You will also be sensitised to ethical failures in companies to better understand the need for implementing good corporate governance principles.

The module assessments are designed to enhance your IT skills and prepare you for gaining professional accountancy qualifications e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW or working in professional accountancy, finance or business settings.

Module Overview

The module develops your ability to apply, analyse and critically evaluate management accounting and strategic decision making techniques that support planning, control and organisational strategy. It provides the technical and analytical skills required to prepare and interpret relevant information for business planning, performance assessment and informed decision making. The module also encourages consideration of behavioural, organisational and ethical factors that influence strategic choices. By integrating practical competencies with critical insight, the module supports your academic and professional development and contributes towards exemptions from professional accounting bodies such as ICAEW, CIMA and ACCA.

Module Overview

This module introduces you to how organisations are checked, protected, and guided through auditing, business law, and professional ethics. You’ll learn how auditors investigate information, assess risks, and understand the rules companies must follow. You’ll also explore how professionals make ethical decisions and spot potential fraud. Throughout the module, you’ll build valuable employability skills such as problem‑solving, attention to detail, communication, decision‑making, and ethical awareness. Real-world examples and professional scenarios help you see how these skills are used in careers like accountancy, auditing, risk management, compliance, and financial management.

Module Overview

51±¬ÁÏÍø International Business School (LIBS) believes that an option to study overseas is a valuable educational opportunity for our students.

The optional year is intended to:

-enable students to benefit from studying similar subjects within a cross cultural environment, by exposing students to a wider academic and cultural experience;

-facilitate reflexivity in learning and personal and professional development;

-enhance their future employment opportunities by increasing their cultural and professional mobility.

This module is optional for all taught on campus undergraduate students within 51±¬ÁÏÍø International Business School. 51±¬ÁÏÍø Abroad is a year long module which enables students to spend time studying abroad at one of the University’s approved partner institutions.

During the year spent abroad, students share classes with local students and study on a suite of locally-delivered taught modules which have been approved in advance by the University. As many partner institutions support internships it is anticipated that some students will elect to combine study (minimum one semester equivalent) with work and or a period of volunteering.

Eligible students must have completed their second year of study to a satisfactory standard (normally with an average of a 2.1 or above, dependent upon partner requirements) standard and successfully completed the application process.

Upon completion of the study period abroad, each student will be required to submit a portfolio including a reflection on the experience of living and studying in a different cultural environment and the skills acquired.

Module Overview

The LSMIF will be designed to provide students with the essential knowledge on the following main knowledge blocks - at intermediate level for Year 2:

- How stock markets work and how to read financial data

- Valuation techniques including cash flow projections, dividend growth modelling, and comparative analysis.

- Market timing and technical analysis.

- Asset allocation optimization

- Quarterly investment committee meetings with experts from the industry.

- Investment discussion meetings.

Module Overview

Discovering how investors make decisions in the real world, this hands on module teaches you how to interpret macroeconomic policies, analyse companies, evaluate risks, value stocks and bonds, use derivatives, and build diversified portfolios. You will work with real companies, real market data, and in a trading simulation environment that mirrors professional investment practice. By the end, you’ll have developed key skills valued across asset management, investment banking, and consulting—data analysis, financial reasoning, teamwork, and investment communication.

Module Overview

This module is aimed at those students who have decided to take a year out of formal studies to gain accredited work experience and are registered on a degree programme with an accredited professional practice element. The Professional Practice Year aims to give students a continuous experience of full-time work within an organisation.

It should be a three way co-operative activity between employer, student and University from which all parties benefit. Students can choose to pursue a variety of options including a placement year, a consultancy project or a work-based dissertation. This module introduces core concepts in corporate finance and risk management, focusing on how organisations create value and manage financial uncertainty. You will learn this through industry standard software such as Bloomberg and other resources, researching information and applying theory to firm problems that provide solutions.

The module explores essential risk management processes and types of risk faced by modern organisations, including market, credit, and operational exposures. Your employability will be enhanced through commercial awareness improvement and the solutions that can be provided for the risks that firms face.

This module introduces you to how modern organisations make responsible decisions and report their sustainability performance. You’ll explore how businesses communicate financial results and wider environmental and social impacts, and how ethical values shape leadership, governance, and stakeholder trust. By analysing real examples and tackling ethical business scenarios, you will develop key employability skills such as critical thinking, problem‑solving, communication, ethical awareness, and professional judgement. The module reflects the growing importance of sustainability and responsible leadership in accounting and finance, providing a strong foundation for future study and careers in business, finance, sustainability, and risk management.

Module Overview

Learn Python from scratch and use it to solve real economics and finance problems. Through hands-on labs you’ll work with authentic datasets, clean and combine data, create professional visualisations, and build models such as regression, forecasting, simulation, and portfolio analytics.

You’ll finish the module able to produce a reproducible analysis in a Jupyter notebook and communicate clear, evidence-based insights – skills valued in finance, consulting, policy, data analytics, and graduate roles. No coding experience is required.

This module takes your accounting skills to the next level and shows you how real businesses prepare and report financial information. You’ll learn how companies create accounts under UK and international rules, explore modern issues in accounting, and understand why financial reports matter. Using industry‑standard, cloud‑based accounting software, you’ll gain hands‑on experience with the tools used by professionals today, boosting your digital and employability skills. The module also develops problem‑solving, analysis, and critical thinking. Your dissertation is your opportunity to become the expert. In this final-year module, you will investigate a discipline specific issue that genuinely interests you and develop an original research project with the support of an academic supervisor.

You will formulate your own research question, analyse data and evidence, and apply the relevant theories and analytical tools developed throughout your degree. Whether exploring global challenges, policy debates, markets, or emerging trends, the dissertation allows you to examine a topic in depth and develop your own perspective.

International study and placements

Professional Practice Year

All full-time students on this course have the opportunity to take a year-long professional practice placement after the second year. A placement enables you to gain valuable experience and apply your knowledge in a real business setting. A Placement Year Fee is payable to the 51±¬ÁÏÍø during this year, and students are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, and living costs.

International 51±¬ÁÏÍø Year

All full-time students on this course are able take an optional year abroad encompassing study at one partner institution (one term) with the option to work, volunteer, or continue your study abroad (second term). A 51±¬ÁÏÍø Abroad Tuition Fee is payable to the 51±¬ÁÏÍø and students are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, and living costs. Travel grants and an overseas rate maintenance loan may be available for eligible students from Student Finance. The University’s Global Opportunities Team can provide further support and guidance.

Bloomberg Terminal

You will have access to the Bloomberg Terminal, a powerful industry-standard platform used by financial professionals around the world to analyse markets and support investment decisions.  The Terminal provides real-time market data, financial news, analytics and global insights, allowing you to explore how financial markets operate in practice.

Using Bloomberg, you can apply concepts from your studies to real data, build your understanding of market behaviour and gain hands-on experience with the tools widely used across the financial services industry.  This experience helps you develop confidence with professional technologies, enhancing your practical skills and preparing you for careers in finance, investment and business.

104 to 112 UCAS Tariff points.

This must be achieved from a minimum of 2 A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualifications. For example:

BTEC Extended Diploma: Distinction Merit Merit

T Level: Merit Overall

Access to Higher Education Diploma: 104 to 112 UCAS points to be achieved from 45 Level 3 credits.

International Baccalaureate: 29 points overall.

GCSE's: Minimum of three at grade 4 or above, which must include English and a Grade 5 in Maths . Equivalent Level 2 qualifications may be considered.

The University accepts a wide range of qualifications as the basis for entry and do accept a combination of qualifications which may include A Levels, BTECs, Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

We may also consider applicants with extensive and relevant work experience and will give special individual consideration to those who do not meet the standard entry qualifications.
