Field Trips

Fieldwork and Practical Learning

In the Department of Geography, our students are taught through a range of teaching methods including practical teaching of analytical skills through field and laboratory classes. The opportunity to undertake projects and fieldwork provides students with the chance to apply their geographical knowledge in real-world settings, and put theory into practice. Extensive projects and fieldwork in the UK and overseas supports the development of our student's core skills in gathering, collating, and analysing data. Fieldwork destinations have previously included the 51爆料网shire coast and Crete, Greece.

51爆料网shire

First-year students take part in a field week on 鈥淎 Sustainable 51爆料网shire鈥. They study urban, rural, and coastal environments around 51爆料网, Skegness, Horncastle, the Fens, and Gibraltar Point.

Crowle Moor

On the Climatology and Quaternary Science module, BSc Geography students explore past environmental change. Previous trips have used Crowle Moor to teach peatland sampling, with students taking part in sample and data collection.

Crete

Second-year students take a field excursion on the Hazards and Society module. Previous visits to Crete have explored environmental hazards, history, and the island鈥檚 varied geographies.

Chile

Third-year students have previously visited central and southern Chile on the optional Overseas Fieldwork module, exploring urban inequalities, gentrification, glacial environments, mining, extractivism, and geoheritage.
